A man should be learned in several sciences,

and should have a reasonable, philosophical and in some measure a mathematical head, to be a complete and excellent poet. -John Dryden

Shhh! Don't tell Lee I turned Margaret Rose's perfectly perfect mathematics pic into a poetry quotation. What does he expect? He did win my heart with poetry over 20 years ago!

"Our Anna Lin" is 6!

We love "our Anna Lin" (what MC calls her) and had a great time at her Build a Bear Birthday Bash! We are so fortunate to have Miss Anna Lin and her wonderful family as our dear friends. AL's adoption spurred us to look at older children and brought us to our own Maggie Rose. At the party all the girls all got to make their own bears and accessorize. MR chose a pink one and surprise, surprise (not) MC's is blue. When it was time to pick the accessory every little girl there picked the sparkly tiara for her bear except MC who had to have a cool pair of rhinestone studded sunglasses. The girls played games, made a big birthday card and just generally had a great time with the birthday girl. The party ended with ice cream cones and a ride on the carousel!

Mary Clare gives her bear a heart.Impatient to play beauty shop, she starts fluffing before he has stuffing.

Margaret Rose gets her bear stuffed and names her Sleeping Beauty.

All stuffed now and making them beautiful.Look at those beautiful smiles!

Since MC can't write her name yet, when it came time for autograph bear I told her to just write her "M". She rolled her eyes and said I can write my name all by myself. And then she did. Who knew?
HAPPY BIRTHDAY SWEETIE!

While Mom's Away

It was parent conference day at school today which means we work until 6:00. Lee got these pics for me so I'd know how the girls passed the time while waiting on Mama.Mary Clare's hula skirt makes great green hair.
The tap shoes just make this outfit!

It's Not Over Until...

I have to start this post by stating the we really do take bad behavior seriously and have high expectations for our girls. That being said Lee called me at school today to report that we'd received a note from daycare stating that Mary Clare had hit, kicked, stuck her tongue out, talked back and refused to sit in time-out. If I've not mentioned it, Mary Clare is our extremist child. Much like the child in Longfellow's poem, when she is good she is very, very good and when she is bad she is horrid. When I got home I took her to her room and told her we had to talk about what happened at daycare. Her lip trembled, she sighed deeply, cast her eyes down and dramatically announced, "I just cannot talk about it!" Before I could think of what to say next she came out with- "But I think I could sing it." And proceeded to do just that complete with a me-me-me to begin, operatic gestures and the dramatic ending of "and then I kicked Miss L...". Her lack of contrition is appalling but her sense of style is priceless. I watched her entire performance without cracking a smile, sentenced her to no stories and cuddle time (may not seem like a lot but is the punishment she hates the most) and then went out in the yard to laugh until I nearly wet myself. We can't decide if we need a therapist or an agent.

First Wobbly Tooth

Lee came into the girls room while I was trying to wake up Mary Clare and said I'd better come look at Margaret Rose because she was complaining her tooth hurt. They've both just been to the dentist so I didn't think it could be anything too serious. I asked MR if her tooth was wobbly and she said no "it hurt, hurt, hurt -I cannot eat da egg." Oh the drama. I asked her if I could see the tooth and she reluctantly let me and of course it wobbled. Oh Margaret! Your first wobbly tooth! She was all smiles of couse as we made a really big deal over it. She has grown up so much! Slow down please!
